Is this Giant leader on the trade table?

2017-09-27T09:38+10:00

A GWS veteran could be on the trade table this offseason, according to SEN news breaker Sam McClure.

Ryan Griffen’s last two seasons has been decimated by injuries, and that could be the trigger that leads to the Giants placing him on the chopping block.

“I think Greater Western Sydney are trying to clear out as much salary cap space as they can,” McClure reported on SEN Breakfast.

“Given Ryan Griffen’s injury history, that has been a name that has been thrown up at executive level, match committee and at football department level as someone that may be moved on.”

Griffen played just three matches this year, before succumbing to a season-ending ankle injury. The 31-year-old averaged 15.3 disposals, 203.7 metres gained, 5.7 contested possessions, 4.0 score involvements, 3.0 tackles and 3.0 clearances this season.

He is out of contract at the end of the 2018 season.

The former Western Bulldogs captain joined the Giants at the end of the 2014 season, being involved in the highly controversial Tom Boyd trade.

Griffen made the All-Australian team in 2013 and is a dual Bulldogs best-and-fairest winner.
