Manager reveals Schache’s preference

2017-10-09T08:31+11:00

Josh Schache’s manager David Trotter has revealed where his client wants to play his football moving forward.

Despite re-signing a new deal with the Brisbane Lions earlier this year, Schache is hoping to move back to Victoria.

“It’s a really mature conversation that we had last week with David Noble and they floated the idea that if something could be done, would Josh want to come home?” Trotter told SEN Breakfast.

“His preference is that, but we understand it will be a busy 10 or so days where something has got to get done, and if it doesn’t get done, he will head back up to Brisbane.”

“These kids, some of them have a really strong support network with family and friends at home, and Josh committing midyear was something he realty wanted to give a real crack, but he has really struggled with being away from that support network that he has got.

“He has battled some issues over mainly this year and a little bit last year, but ideally he would like to play his football in Melbourne if something could get done.”

Trotter also added Schache hasn’t indicated any preferred club, stating he just wants to find a way back to Victoria. Brisbane hasn’t put a price on the 20-year-old’s value.

Earlier this year, former St Kilda chief Brian Waldron told SEN's Hungry For Sport that the Western Bulldogs were keen to lure Schache back to Victoria, even after he had committed to the Lions.

Brett Anderson of SEN's On The Clock podcast has also reported throughout the year that Schache isn't a certainty to stay in Brisbane. Anderson said Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton and the Bulldogs are four teams to keep an eye on in the Schache chase.

The Murray Bushrangers product was the second pick in the 2015 national draft. Schache is under contract with the Lions until at least the end of 2019.
