Big Swan about to move crosstown?

2017-10-10T16:05+11:00

Former Melbourne forward David Schwarz says GWS should consider luring Kurt Tippett from Sydney.

With reports ruckman Shane Mumford will be forced into retirement because of injury, GWS has been left exposed in the ruck given unproven pair Rory Lobb and former Cat Dawson Simpson are left to battle for the No.1 position.

Lobb has never played as a No. 1 ruckman while Simpson has struggled when asked to play the role in past years.

Schwarz believes adding Tippett, who was on the outer late in the year at Sydney, could be the perfect fit while the premiership window remains open.

“I think it makes sense for the Giants to at least look at it given what’s happening with Shane Mumford,” he told SEN’s The Run Home.

“It would at least be an insurance policy for the club.”

One hurdle in any potential trade would be the veteran Swan's healthy remuneration package. The 30-year-old triggered a clause in 2016 that ensured his earned a two-year contract extension at top dollar.

“The Swans would probably have to pay some of his wage but they might be willing to do that to move him on and free up some cap money,” Schwarz said.

“It could actually be a win-win for each club on all sorts of levels.”

In the wake of the Swans’ semi-final exit footy manager Tom Harley said Tippett would be traded despite struggling for senior opportunities in 2017.
