Cam Mooney has urged Tom Lynch to consider leaving Gold Coast saying that he could be a Hall of Famer if he makes the move back to Victoria.
Lynch, who took over the co-captaincy of the Suns this year, has booted 234 goals in 121 games since debuting in 2011, but Mooney says that he is wasting his time at a club who is yet to make a finals series and finished 2017 in 17th place.
“He’s one of the best key forwards in the game, if he leaves I think he’s a future Hall of Famer,” the former Geelong and North Melbourne premiership forward said on SEN’s The Run Home.
“I think he’s an absolute star.”
Mooney said that Lynch, who is a restricted free-agent at the end of next season, needs to look into the future before assessing his next option and the current situation with the Suns doesn’t paint a rosy outlook.
“He’s got to look at himself in the mirror and go, ‘If I stay here I’m going to play 250 games and spend my time in front of 10,000 people. I’m not going to play in a big Friday night game, I’m not going to play finals football. Yes, I’m going to make great money, but what achievements am I going to make out of the game?’
“This guy is a superstar, he should be playing on the MCG (in) big games, kicking big goals.
“If I was a Melbourne club I would throw everything at him to get him out of there.
“Everything.”
