Things have “changed drastically” with Tomlinson

Former St Kilda midfielder Nick Dal Santo believes the situation regarding his ex-club’s chase for Greater Western Sydney defender Adam Tomlinson has taken a dramatic turn.

Despite remaining under contract at the Giants until the end of 2019, the Saints have been interested in the 24-year-old throughout the NAB AFL Trade Period. It is believed Tomlinson would prefer to play his football in Victoria, but is also content to stay with GWS.

“Things have changed drastically in the last week,” Dal Santo told SEN Afternoons.

“The word up until the last seven days was the Giants were prepared to look at the option. The Saints had reportedly met with him and then Ameet Bains in the last half a day and said up until yesterday, we were really keen and thought we were a chance, but it has been shut down again.”

It was understood some at GWS were happy for him to go, but others were adamant he had to stay.

Dal Santo isn’t sure if Tomlinson fits a need for the Saints, saying, “I would’ve thought it was players who are more skillful and have a little bit of polish.”

The Oakleigh Chargers product averaged 13.8 disposals at 77 percent efficiency this season. He was one of the Giants’ best performers in their Preliminary Final defeat to Richmond.
