'We can get better': Tiger star's warning

2018-01-09T08:50+11:00

Richmond may have broken a 37-year premiership drought, but its best footy is ahead of it according to midfielder Kane Lambert.

The Tigers enjoyed a fairy tale run through September which culminated in the club’s 11 flag, but Lambert told SEN Breakfast that they still have plenty of improvement in them.

“We are really excited about the growth we feel we have in our group,” he said.

“We feel we played our best footy towards the back end of last year, but we also still felt that we could play better.

“Whilst last year was such an amazing year, we still feel that our best footy is ahead of us.”

Lambert said that they expect opposition clubs to use elements of their gameplan as a blueprint in 2018, but there is no guarantee that the small forward line that served Richmond so well will stay the same this season.

“There will be elements of opposition clubs that take out some things of the way that we play,” he said.

“I know that we did a similar thing with the way that the Bulldogs play. It will be interesting to see if clubs structure up differently with their forward line.

“We might even do it different this year – whether or not we play another tall or just stay small.”

Richmond will tune up for its premiership defence with JLT Series clashes against Essendon in Wangaratta on Saturday, February 24 and North Melbourne at Ikon Park on Wednesday, March 7.
