Star Victorian jockey Stephen Baster is confident his Magic Millions mount Nomothaj can win tomorrow’s $2 million event despite not having raced since October.
The daughter of boom sire Snitzel’s only start was October last year at Flemington and resulted in a hard-fought victory over Ranier, with Magic Millions favourite Sunlight a length away in third.
Nomothaj, trained by David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, tuned up for the Gold Coast event with two Sydney trials, the last of which was an impressive two-length victory on the bridle.
Baster, the form jockey in Victoria, said he was not concerned about his mount’s preparation.
“I think both her trials have been first class,” Baster told SEN Mornings.
“She’s a great filly with a great temperament and while she’s not overly big she’s been aimed at this race.
“I don’t think she needs racing because she does everything right.” Drawn ideally in barrier two, Nomothaj has been backed into $9.50 after bookies opened the speedy filly at $11.
