2018-02-14T21:00+11:00

In a five-part series, we take a look back at the best five wins by one of Australia's greatest ever racehorses, the undefeated, the unstoppable, the great, Black Caviar.

A winner of all 25 of her starts – including 15 at Group One level – Black Caviar is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats of the Australian turf.

She was named the Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year in 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13, but which five wins were her best?

We take a look...

3. Lightning Stakes (G1)

Weight: 56.5kg

Placings: 2nd - Moment Of Change, 3rd - Golden Archer, 4th - Satin Shoes

Having returned from England after her gut-busting run in the Diamond Jubilee, Black Caviar's first-up win in the 2013 Lightning Stakes had to be seen to be believed.

In what was her 23rd straight win, she broke a 25-year-old track record over 1000-metre course at Flemington, left trainer Peter Moody shedding a tear.

“I think it’s the first time I’ve been nervous for a long time,” he said.

“It’s good to have her back.

“She’s just a good news story and I’m very grateful to the owners who are prepared to share her with everyone.

“What do you say? I’m glad I’m sweating or you might see a tear…to do that and run a record, I’m lost for words.”
