Adelaide star Erin Phillips has backed her side to succeed this AFLW season despite a 2-1 start.
The Crows notched their first win of the season on Saturday, beating the Western Bulldogs by seven points at Norwood.
Phillips, who kicked four goals on return from a quad injury, telling SEN’s Whateley early losses didn’t dent her belief in her team.
“I haven’t stopped thinking we can still win this even from the last two losses," she said.
“You’re not out until you’re out, it’s anybody’s game. Look over the weekend, how close is this competition? It’s fantastic.
"Anything can happen, for us we can’t afford to lose any more, two might be the max in this competition.
“We’ve just got to worry about us now and not worry about other teams winning or losing because that’s out of our control.”
Phillips is also satisfied to be back on field helping her side.
“If you couldn’t see the smile on my face then I don’t know what you were watching because it’s been horrible watching the last couple of weeks so it was great to be back out there with my team," she said.
“I just wanted, more than anything, to get the win – you have two losses in a row and you’re probably only allowed two losses in a competition to get the win and stop the evil streak was fantastic.”
A move forward, to help ease Phillips back into the side, paid dividends for both player and team.
“Mentally I knew as soon as I got out there and had my first kick I wouldn’t be thinking about anything else," she said.
"I just warmed up on the left more so, leaving my right quad alone until I had to use it so I actually felt really good and once the ball was bounced I didn’t notice it now it’s just getting that game conditioning back.
“Obviously last year I was playing in the midfield but coming from injury Bec (coach Bec Goddard) put me forward to get my feet and feel of the game again rather than throw me straight into the fire.
“I knew I had to use my strength to an advantage to stay in front and be a presence up forward. The game plan was just to have me one-out and try to make something happen down there so (I'm) happy it pulled off.”
The Crows are away to Greater Western Sydney this Sunday.
