Tiger warns best is still to come

2018-02-22T19:24+11:00

Richmond premiership wingman Shaun Grigg is confident the Tigers have only scratched the surface of their potential.

In the wake of an historic premiership victory many have predicted the reigning premier to fall victim to a premiership hangover, but Grigg refutes the notion.

“We’re really excited about it because last year was our first crack at that game style and the way we trained with assistant coaches and different players.

“The way we see it we’ve only been in our program one year so there is huge upside to our game both offensively and defensively.

“For me personally you taste that success and you want it again so bad.

“The other side of it is that we’ve got so much competition for spots given our VFL side made the Grand Final last year.”

Grigg, who is set to play his 150th game for Richmond against his former club Carlton in the season opener, is coming off a brilliant season in which he played all 25 games, averaged 26 disposals and finished sixth in the best and fairest.

He credited a great working environment and willingness of players to carry out plans set in place by a new band of assistant to coach Damien Hardwick.

The left-footer expected very little to change.

“We’re going to bring that every week because it’s the cornerstone of our game,” he said.

“Turning up to work was so good last year and we want to make it like that again in 2018.”

Grigg has been one of the recruits of the decade for the Tigers, who gave up Andrew Collins in return back in 2010. Collins played 11 games for the Blues and was delisted at the end of 2013.
