Former teammate unloads on Cahill

Melbourne City defender Scott Jamieson has launched a scathing attack on former teammate Tim Cahill and Socceroo selection policies, suggesting reputation alone will earn the striker selection in the national team for the upcoming World Cup.

Cahill walked out on City last month to join Millwall, citing more game time in the lead up to the World Cup as motivation. But after failing to earn that game time he has backtracked in recent days.

The 38-year-old suggested the move was about challenging himself in a professional environment and utilising high-class facilities. Millwall coach Neil Harris suggested Cahill wasn’t fit enough to start games at club level.

“I think it (move) was all about playing and I think he’s covering tracks a little bit,” Jamieson told SEN.

“He’s probably an isolated example of what the Australian team is about because I think his reputation gets him in.

“I don’t believe it’s the right way to go about it but then again his reputation speaks volumes.

“Tim could be playing with Milwall reserves and still make it.”

Jamieson refuted the notion Cahill was training in an environment superior to that of those at Melbourne City.

“In terms of environment, and if you look at facilities wise and look at his Instagram, which he’s on 24-7, he showed Millwall’s facilities and I can tell you now Melbourne City’s facilities are a lot better," he said.

The bad blood between Cahill and former teammates is bubbling to the surface in the wake of his departure.

Despite that Jamieson believes Socceroo fans will see Cahill at the World Cup in Russia.

“I think Tim is a smart man in regards to what he says and having worked with him I think he’s very focussed on making the World Cup,” he said.

“I believe he will, and the move was about the World Cup.”
