Blues provide injury update on star youngsters

2018-03-01T13:10+11:00

Carlton football boss Andrew McKay expects both Sam Petrevski-Seton and Jacob Weitering to line-up for the Blues in their second JLT Community Series clash against Hawthorn next week.

The exciting young midfielder and the 2015 number 1 draft pick both missed the club’s first pre-season hit-out against St Kilda at Ikon Park last night, but McKay says both were only rested as a precaution due to slight niggles.

He anticipates both youngsters will feature against the Hawks in Launceston on Saturday March 10.

“(Petrevski-Seton) copped a whack earlier in the week in his quad that is just stiff and sore,” McKay told SEN Mornings.

“Given it was our first hit-out, we thought let’s just put him on ice and save him for the game against Hawthorn in 10 days’ time. He should be fine for that game.

“(Weitering) will certainly play. His was just one of those unusual ones where he had a really stiff neck.”

Speaking further on Weitering, McKay predicts the 20-year-old will spend most of his time in the back line this season, despite being trialled forward early in 2017.

“We believe the defence is probably his best position,” the Carlton head of football said.

“We’ll try and settle him there and get some really good footy under his belt in that position. He’ll get a bit more stability playing back more often than not this year.”

The Blues kick off their 2018 campaign in their now-traditional season opening clash against reigning premiers Richmond on Thursday March 22.
