Why Warner went off at De Kock

2018-03-05T18:53+11:00

SEN Chief Sports Caller Gerard Whateley has described why David Warner was so angry with South Africa's Quinton De Kock.

Video footage has emerged of the duo having a heated verbal argument in the stairwell on the way to the change rooms, with teammates having to hold Warner back.

"My understanding is consistent with multiple reports over the last half an hour. David Warner was reacting to what he took to be derogatory comments about his wife Candice. His anger was directed at Quinton De Kock," Whateley told SEN's Time On.

"It is highly unusual and absolutely combustable in that sort of close confine.

"We are waiting for Cricket Australia to release a statement, their team manager has been involved with this all morning. The intention from the team was to release a statement before the day's play.

"The events of today will be overshadowed by what happens in the aftermath."

Whateley thinks it will be interesting to see if Warner receives any punishment for his actions, considering the close proximity of where the incident happened.

"It could have gotten a long way out of hand," he said.

Earlier today, Australian cricketing great Adam Gilchrist urged Warner to decide if he wants to continue playing with an aggressive edge, or display a more composed attitude on the field.
