“I’m not here for token games”: Pies AFLW player’s message to trolls

2018-03-09T15:40+11:00

Collingwood AFLW player Georgie Parker says she can’t wait to debut for the Magpies this weekend and prove her detractors wrong.

The former Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning hockey player was recruited by Collingwood as a rookie last year, despite the 28-year-old not having any prior football experience.

However the Magpies say their experimental recruit could eventually play midfield and forward role for the club, a role which Parker will put to the test for the first time tomorrow against Brisbane in Moreton Bay.

She says her aim will be to prove her doubters wrong.

“I’m very excited to be wearing the black and white stripes tomorrow,” Parker told SEN Afternoons.

“I just want to do myself and the team proud and to prove that I am just not there for token games, that I actually deserved my spot, for the few trolls out there that think that people like me shouldn’t be getting a game.

“Hopefully I get to prove them wrong.”

The match between the Lions and the Magpies gets underway at 4:35 PM tomorrow.
