Kane Cornes believes second-year Port Adelaide player Sam Powell-Pepper has the potential to become the best player in the AFL.
The 20-year-old midfielder was a shining light for the Power in 2017, averaging 17 disposals at 66.1 per cent efficiency, 2.9 clearances, 5.2 tackles and three inside 50s a game in his debut season.
Cornes believes the 2016 number 18 pick for the Power has the capability to mimic the impact of Richmond premiership midfielder Dustin Martin in the near future.
“He’s frightening,” the 2004 Port Adelaide premiership player said on SEN Mornings.
“I’ve never seen a first year player do what he has done.
“If he can work on his kicking a little bit, he has the potential to be the next Dustin Martin. That’s just the way he plays the game. (He has) the second best fend-off already.
“I think they (Port Adelaide) are pretty happy they’ve got him.”
Powell-Pepper finished in third place in the 2017 NAB AFL Rising Star awards, behind 2016 number one pick Andrew McGrath and Hawthorn youngster Ryan Burton.
The Power begin their 2018 campaign against Fremantle at Adelaide Oval on Saturday March 24.
