AFL make official statement on club song changes

2018-03-16T18:09+11:00

The AFL have confirmed that the majority of the competition’s club songs have been re-recorded with minor changes.

The new songs are mostly the same as the older recordings, with slight lyrical and musical changes the extent of the changes.

The League say the clubs approached them to make changes to their songs, and offered them a chance to re-record them to bring them up to scratch to modern sound standards.

“The AFL was approached by a number of clubs to provide minor updates to their songs,” AFL general manager of clubs and operations Travis Auld said in a statement provided to SEN.

“In doing so, we offered all the clubs the ability to have a new recording, to offer stronger digital sound quality. A number of the club songs are old recordings of diminishing quality. Minor lyric changes were only made following requests from respective football clubs.

“The theme songs of the Fremantle Football Club, the Gold Coast SUNS, and the GWS GIANTS were not re-recorded.”

The lyrical alterations include Richmond’s incorrect “risking head and skin” line being changed to “risking head and shin” and the introduction of a second verse to Geelong's song.
