Crows CEO opens up on preseason camp

2018-03-27T06:55+11:00

Adelaide CEO Andrew Fagan has discussed the Crows’ preseason camp, saying it was a bit of “fun” thrown into their 2018 preparations.

Former St Kilda captain Danny Frawley revealed the story during AFL Nation’s pregame coverage of the Adelaide Essendon game last Friday night, something which has since been followed up in a Fox Footy report.

“I’m led to believe theirs was quite unique,” Frawley said about the camp.

“They went to a place in the Gold Coast and they thought they were going there.

“They had their shorts and they were in a bus and were basically blindfolded for about 24 hours in a bus.

“They were blindfolded and a guy was talking to them. They had food and didn’t know where they were going.

“It was more about the mind than physical.

“It was in the middle of Australia where they ended up.”

Speaking on AFL Nation, Fagan admitted the camp did happen, but explained the numerous benefits behind it.

“We had a preseason camp, something we hadn’t had for a while,” he said.

“We’ve generally trained out of Adelaide but we took the boys away, we thought it would be a good opportunity to get out of Adelaide.

“There were elements of the camp where we deliberately through a little bit of confusion into it.

“Don Pyke has done a bit of that throughout the preseason and just turned up and let the boys run training for themselves.

“They sort of wonder what’s going on and then they work out, we got to work this sort for ourselves because the coaches can’t be out there on the playing arena during the game.

“They sort of wonder what’s going on.

“We want ensure the players are developing as leaders and coping with demands that are unplanned for.

“We had a little bit of that worked into the preseason camp, which was a bit of fun.”

The Crows lost their season opener to the Bombers by 12-points, after leading by 20-points heading into the final term.

Adelaide will look to bounce back on Thursday night against Richmond.
