Tigers star won’t be down for long says Jenkins

Josh Jenkins believes Alex Rance will quickly recover from his poor performance in Round 2.

The Richmond premiership defender had his colours lowered by Jenkins who booted five goals in Adelaide’s 36-point win in Thursday's Grand Final re-match at the Adelaide Oval.

Jenkins was on fire early, outmarking and outclassing All-Australian captain Rance, who recovered with a much improved showing after the break.

The Crows forward believes a player of such quality will have very few issues in returning to his best form following the aberration.

“I found it really interesting because he kind of completely changed the way he was going about business in the first half,” he said on AFL Nation.

“He was really conscious of being physical and taking body, whereas in the second half he sorted of just released his own shackles. He flew at the ball and made us all look silly at different stages

“The quality of the man, quality of the player to show really great resilience. We’ve all had halves of footy that haven’t been our best but he just bounced back and was a huge factor with 17 disposals in the second half.

“You can never keep a player of that quality down for too long.

“We were able to get the better of him at different stages but you can never keep a good player down for too long.”

Rance and Richmond will be desperate to recover from their first loss of 2018 when they meet Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 3 on Sunday, April 8.

Jenkins also touched on Adelaide's much-discussed pre-season training camp, saying that "95 per cent" of the camp was extremely beneficial to the Crows.

"If you wanted to really drill on one turning point for me in terms of letting go of the Grand Final, that was it," he said.

“We spent some real quality time together and felt great support on that camp. 95-98% of it I found fantastic, 2% of it I found irrelevant and not for me.

“If there are guys that are upset, and evidently there must be, then we will out our arms around them and work out what we can do for them moving forward.

“I understand that on the back of Melbourne’s forfeited camp it’s probably a big story and people want to know what happened.

“All I can say, from my point of view, I found it very beneficial.”
