Stringer ready to show Dogs what they’re missing says teammate

Essendon ruckman Tom Bellchambers says Jake Stringer is ready to show the Western Bulldogs what they’re missing, as the high profile Bombers recruit gets set to battle his former side.

Stringer and the Dogs had a messy break-up over the offseason, with the 23-year-old’s off-field issues and attitude reaching breaking point at the Whitten Oval, causing him to part ways with the club.

The Bombers play the Bulldogs for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon at Etihad Stadium, and Bellchambers says it’s a stage where Stringer will to shine.

“I spoke to him (Stringer) yesterday, he said he hadn’t thought about it too much,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I reckon come game time he will pretty wound up Jakey, I know what he is like.

“He had a quiet game on the weekend, so he will be looking to get out there and show the Dogs what they’re missing out on.”

Bellchambers also acknowledged Essendon is still trying to find Stringer’s best position, as coach John Worsfold attempts to strike the balance between his midfield and forward time.

“We are still trying to utilise how we get the best out of Jakey on the ground,” he said.

“It’s only two weeks into the season, so that’s going to be a bit of a process.

“He was good in Round 1, a bit quieter last week, so we are hopeful he can have a great output on Sunday.”

Stringer is averaging 12.5 disposals in his first two games with the Dons, while he has yet to kick a goal.

He played 89 games for the Bulldogs, making the 2015 All-Australian team and being a member of their 2016 premiership side.
