Former Western Bulldogs and Richmond coach Terry Wallace believes Adelaide has no choice but to deploy a tall line-up against Sydney tonight, due to their mega injury list.
The Crows have seven players from last year’s Grand Final absent from the squad that will battle the Swans, and despite their tall forward line copping criticism over the week, Wallace says coach Don Pyke has no other options.
“They’ve just got so many missing out of their best line-up,” he told SEN’s KB and The Doc.
“When you look at it, they’ve lost all their midsized players, when you think of the two Crouch boys, Rory Sloane, Brodie Smith and Eddie Betts.
“It’s all the medium to smaller guys, which means they’ve gone really big into this game because that’s all they’ve got left.
“I don’t think that’s anyone’s fault. They’ve got 10 guys over 190cm going in tonight’s game, the Swans have four.”
Wallace has also mounted a defence for under fire Adelaide skipper Taylor Walker, as he is of the notion the 27-year-old is battling fitness concerns.
“I think it’s fair to say Tex is probably playing underdone a bit,” he said.
“He had the plantar fasciitis all over summer.
“It does take a while to feel fit and well enough to play, but then you actually have to get some form back.”
You can listen to the Crows and Swans contest live on 1116 SEN from 6:00pm tonight with Anthony Hudson, Jack Heverin, Danny Frawley and Terry Wallace.
