Youngster the answer to Demons need for speed

2018-04-20T15:20+10:00

Dashing Melbourne defender Jayden Hunt must be recalled, according to three-time premiership Hawthorn champion Terry Wallace.

Hunt excited Dees fans last season with his eye-catching run and creativity across half-back, but has found himself on the outta having been dropped from the side after the opening two rounds.

The 23-year-old found form in VFL last weekend and according to Wallace, his dash and dare will give Simon Goodwin's side some much needed zest.

“Jayden Hunt has to come in. Just from a speed aspect," he said on SEN's The Match Commmittee.

“They’ve gone with (Bernie) Vince and Lewis down in the backline for a bit of calmness but it’s a bit slow now.

“Jayden Hunt lost form, that’s fair enough. He went back and was best on ground at VFL level last week, so he just comes back in.”

The former Western Bulldogs and Richmond coach believes that Melbourne's regrettable loss in Round 1 against Geelong has put them under avoidable pressure.

“I don’t think he’ll be over the top,” Wallace said.

“I know they lost that first game of the season (to Geelong), but coming in to what was a horrible performance, they really should have been on three victories.

“Do you go crazy? I don’t think so.”
