Terry Wallace's son the umpire who decided the Carlisle/Davis contest

Terry Wallace has backed his son Brent’s decision to not award a free kick to Jake Carlisle at the end of yesterday’s draw against GWS.

Brent Wallace, Terry’s son, was the umpire closest to the contest that saw Phil Davis spoil Carlisle.

Wallace talks about where he was watching from when the crucial decision came down.

“I knew exactly what zone he was in and I was very happy for the ball to stay up the other end of the ground so there’s no decisions to be made, but as we saw the break away, the flip up the back and Jack Steven with the footy and then that final call was Brent’s call,” Wallace told the AFL Nation pregame show.

“I spoke to him this morning and he’s comfortable with his decision and from what he saw, he wouldn’t change it.

“He was (blindsided) to whatever the incidental contact was to the shoulder of Carlisle, he didn’t see that first up.

“But on review he wouldn’t have paid it anyway because it was only incidental contact and not enough to have actually paid a free kick in that play.”

Wallace agrees with his son’s non-decision.

“My call on it at the time was I didn’t think it was a free kick, I didn’t think there was enough contact to pay the free kick,” he said.

“After the game Jake Carlisle spoke on air and if you go through that, he doesn’t mention anything other than the fact he dropped the mark.”

Robert Walls agreed and thought the onus was on Carlisle to simply hold the mark.

“Unfortunately he dropped what he should’ve taken. End of story,” Walls said.
