"There is a cast iron place for Chris Lynn if he wants it," says Craddock

2018-04-23T12:59+10:00

Respected cricket journalist Robert 'Crash' Craddock believes Queensland big hitter Chris Lynn would be in serious contention to play in the Test team if he decided to return to red ball cricket.

Lynn rejected a Queensland Cricket contract to persue lucrative T20 deals from competitions like the Indian Premier League.

With the spots up for grabs in the Australian lineup, Craddock is adament the 28-year-old would walk into the new look set up if he opted to make a comeback to the Queensland set up.

"If Chris Lynn rang up Cricket Australia today and said I’ve decided I’m back playing red ball cricket, there’s no way he wouldn’t be in that first Test team," he told SEN's Whateley.

"If he starts off with a century and a 50 in Shield cricket he would be straight in the Test team without a doubt.

"He averages 44 in first class cricket – he is a top class player. But he has chosen this path of white ball cricket.

"So while we can say there are players like Sunil Narine from the West Indies who is 29 and has only played a handful of first class games because he loves T20 cricket – that’s where he makes his money.

"It is happening under our nose – Chris Lynn is that sort of player.

"Sure he has a dodgy shoulder which struggles in the four-day game. I’m most interested this season because with these three players banned, there is a cast iron place for Chris Lynn if he wants it.

"It’s a provocative thought, because if he did want to play then next season he would literally it would be a couple of innings and I think he would be straight in."
