Edwards lauds Tigers “livewire”

2018-04-25T07:55+10:00

Shane Edwards has praised the impact of youngster Jack Higgins, saying he brings a slew of excitement to the Richmond side.

Higgins booted three first half goals in the Tigers’ 46-point win over Melbourne last night, which brings his career total to five from just 11 kicks in two games.

The number 17 draft pick has become a fan favourite with his enthusiastic celebrations, and Edwards says his teammates feed off his energy.

THE WRAP-UP: RICHMOND V MELBOURNE

“It feels like he had about six because his goals are so memorable and the way he carries on afterwards is awesome,” he told AFL Nation.

“It really gets us up. He has had a huge impact in the two games he has played, he was very stiff not to play after his first game.

“We love having him out there, he is a livewire.”

Richmond had a balanced set of contributors in the victory over the Demons, with eight players collecting 20 or more disposals.

Edwards, who amassed 26 disposals on the night, says the team has made that evenness a focus.

“We don’t really want to rely on Dustin (Martin) and Cotch (Trent Cotchin) like we probably have in the past,” he said.

“It’s up to the other guys, Reece Conca has really stepped up, Kane Lambert is always doing really well. We want everyone to go through the midfield and have an impact.”
