Melbourne team of the century member Garry Lyon says the AFLPA needs to get involved in the Jed Lamb/Mark Baguley sledging situation.
Lamb sledged Baguley about his appearance during Saturday’s Carlton v Essendon clash, which resulted in Baguley then sledging Lamb about his father, who was murdered in 1999.
LAMB/BAGULEY SLEDGING SAGA REVEALED
The Bomber defender released a statement last night saying, “Jed and I resolved the matter after the match and we shook hands.”
However, Lyon believes the AFLPA should make a stand and make their stance clear on sledging and where the line is.
“I don’t want to hear from the AFL, Carlton or Essendon – this is a 100 percent Players Association issue,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“(AFLPA President) Patrick (Dangerfield) should sit down with Baguley, Lamb and whoever else and say, right, we need to make some hard and fast rules here that the rest of our organisation are going to buy in on.
“It needs to be Players Association driven and they need to own it.
“It’s no good the media talking about it, saying if it’s acceptable or not. Make a code players and stick to it. Then have the peer condemnation.”
Blues coach Brendon Bolton didn’t have knowledge of the content when he made verbal comments towards Baguley at three-quarter time.
