Moore contract of little concern says Buckley

2018-05-16T10:45+10:00

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley is confident Darcy Moore will remain a Magpie, despite constant speculation surrounding the future of the out of contract swingman.

Moore’s manager, Liam Pickering, confirmed to SEN Breakfast yesterday teams are courting the 22-year-old.

However, Buckley says that’s simply a by-product of the industry, and he isn’t worried about the father-son selection leaving the club.

PICKERING: CLUBS WANT MOORE

“We are invested in Darcy and we believe that will play out,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“This is the modern game for one because it’s the game within the game is the list management. It’s also a game within the game, which is media in football.

“This is Darcy’s turn, so Darcy has gone through it for a week or two.

“When the dust settles and Darcy, on the balance of it, re-signs with us and we go on as we plan, no one will remember the fact that we were having these conversations about speculation that other teams are courting him.

“Of course other teams are courting him, he is a good player, and of course other teams are courting other good players who are out of contract. That’s the industry.

“It really is of very little concern at the moment.”

Buckley also explained how he is buoyant Moore will be able to influence the Magpies’ season once he returns from a hamstring injury.

“The unfortunate thing for Darce is that he has injured himself twice,” he said.

“He has had a really sparse preseason and now he is a challenge to get himself up so that he can contribute to us in the back half of the year.

“He can do that because he can walk and chew gum at the same time, he is a big boy, and so are we.

“We will deal with it.”

Collingwood will look to bounce back from last weekend’s loss on Saturday night against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
