Cornes: Essendon's two top 10 picks in 2015 "shaping to be a disaster"

2018-05-19T12:36+10:00

Former Port Adelaide 300-gamer Kane Cornes is worried Essendon has completely botched the 2015 draft.

The Bombers had two top 10 selections and Cornes said neither player looks like working out.

“The 2015 draft for the Bombers is shaping to be a disaster,” he told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“They had two picks inside the top 10 – pick five with Darcy Parish who just lost his place in the side.

“He doesn’t look like the modern footballer.

“Number six was Aaron Francis who we know has had his issues.

“When you have those two draft picks in one year, you have to nail it and the Bombers haven’t.”

Former Western Bulldogs coach Terry Wallace said if neither player works out, it will hurt the Bombers for a long time.

“It hurts you for a decade getting that wrong,” he said.

Other players taken in the 2015 draft after Parish and Francis include Jacob Hopper (pick 7), Harry McKay (pick 10), Charlie Curnow (pick 12), Matthew Kennedy (pick 13), Eric Hipwood (pick 14), Daniel Rioli (pick 15) and Ryan Burton (pick 19).

Essendon also took Alex Morgan (pick 29), Mason Redman (pick 30), Mitch Brown (pick 54), Yestin Eades (pick 64) and Michael Hartley (pick 68).

The Powercor Country Festival is a free event commencing at 1pm on Saturday May 19 in Yarra Park. Includes performances by the Black Sorrows, John Williamson, Michelle Gardiner and Darren Coggan.
