Lyon slams “unforgivable” AFL fan fight

2018-05-22T06:46+10:00

Melbourne champion Garry Lyon has called a fan brawl at Saturday’s St Kilda v Collingwood match “unforgiveable” and a “bad look” for footy.

After causing some noise on social media after the contest, fresh vision of the incident has emerged on Channel 9, footage Lyon couldn’t believe when he saw it.

“That’s a fair dinkum punch on,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“That’s unforgivable. There are women involved, there are men involved.

“That’s as bad a look as you can have for footy.

“The AFL would be absolutely off their nut about that and rightfully so.

“If that was the soccer, we would be screaming from the top of the trees.”

Police are investigating the incident.

In a statement provided to Channel 9, Etihad Stadium said, “stadium security were positioned in the area and the Victoria Police were called, responding immediately.”

St Kilda and Collingwood have said they will “act appropriately” if anyone is found at fault.

The brawl follows a similar situation occurring in the Port Adelaide v Adelaide match a couple of weeks ago.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast on iTunes here.
