Pizzas, wines and Lethal…how Fagan soaked in big win

2018-05-21T14:11+10:00

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has revealed he shared a glass of wine and pizza with Greg Swann and Leigh Matthews last night, while enjoying the club’s 56-point win over Hawthorn.

Brisbane broke their losing streak with the shock triumph over the Hawks, and Fagan says he took some extra time to soak up the positive vibes.

HIPWOOD STARS IN BIG WIN

“I have watched the game and I’m watching it again now, watching it properly, coding it and stuff like that,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“I watched it last night, went around to Greg Swann’s place our CEO, had a pizza and a glass of wine after the game and sat on the couch and watched the replay.

“Leigh Matthews came around as well, so we did a critique on his commentary and our wives were around.

“It was good to sit back and watch it and take it all in.

“Now I’m doing it in a more serious way before I see the players.”

However, Fagan did explain how important it is to move on from the win eventually, and shift the focus to Saturday’s engagement with Sydney.

“I think it’s great for belief, but mind you, you can’t celebrate it for too long,” he said.

“We got a game in (five) days time against the Sydney Swans and they’re the ultimate professionals at winning games of football over the last 10 years.

“We will have our meeting, we will reflect on what we learnt from the weekend and we will move on pretty quickly.

“I’m sure some confidence and belief would have come into the group. That was the pleasing part.

“With the close losses we have had, as a coach, sometimes you worry that the bubble will burst and they’ll stop trying one week because they’ve had enough of trying and not getting the result.

“That wasn’t the case yesterday, and I’m pretty thankful that it was Hodgey’s (Luke Hodge) first game against his old team and I think his teammates might have rallied around him for the occasion and have been pretty hell bent on putting up a good performance.”
