The “catastrophic” situation Blues could face

2018-05-21T13:42+10:00

SEN Afternoons host Andy Maher says it will be “catastrophic” for Carlton if they can’t sign Patrick Cripps to a long-term contract.

Cripps amassed 31 disposals, 74 pressure acts and 10 clearances in the Blues’ 109-point loss to Melbourne on the weekend, underlining his importance to Brendon Bolton’s midfield.

The 23-year-old hasn’t committed to a long-term deal with Carlton, and Maher says that has to be the club’s number one priority.

“They got to get that kid’s signature ASAP,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“If they don’t get him signed, that is catastrophic for Carlton.

“They have to get it done as soon as they possibly can.

“He has a year and a half to go on his contract, but it becomes in front of that footy team and that footy club at the moment, with everything else that’s going on.”

Cripps rates elite for clearances, handballs, contested possessions and ground ball gets in 2018.
