Storm CEO: "We're not in the business of being a feeder team."

2018-05-23T14:07+10:00

Melbourne Storm CEO Dave Donaghy has hit back strongly at criticism coming out of New South Wales and Queensland.

This comes after the Broncos reportedly offered Storm coach Craig Bellamy a massive deal to bring him north, despite Bellamy remaining under contract to Melbourne.

“We’re not in the business of being someone else’s feeder team,” Donaghy told SEN Afternoons.

“It was interesting hearing some of the Sydney commentators saying Melbourne fails to make an impact in the Melbourne market and can’t make a profit.

“The thing about our club, we’re a 52 million dollar business, we’re forecast to make profits this year, after 20 years and a hell of a lot of hard work, we will turn a fairly significant profit which is a great step for our football club.”

The CEO is confident Bellamy isn’t going anywhere.

“I still remain optimistic he will continue,” Donaghy said.

“We’ve made a three-year offer to our coach and that was off the back of some discussions the coach and I had.

“We feel we’ve got some wonderful staff all through the organization and the thing about Melbourne Storm is its not defined by one person, it’s a terrific system internally.

“I don’t want that confused, we want the coach to continue, we’ve certainly made a very strong offer.”
