"Awful" McCarthy can't hold his spot in Fremantle side: Wallace

2018-05-25T13:05+10:00

Hawthorn champion Terry Wallace says Fremantle forward Cam McCarthy is lucky to retain his spot in the Dockers’ side for Sunday’s encounter against North Melbourne at Optus Stadium.

McCarthy had 11 disposals and failed to kick a goal in last Saturday’s 59-point drubbing against Sydney at the SCG.

It’s fair to say Wallace wasn’t too impressed with the output of the 23-year-old, who believes his performance didn’t warrant selection for the following week.

“I’m just wondering, Cam McCarthy has been selected again and he’s in the starting 18 which normally means they get the nod,” he said on The Match Committee.

Asked by Sam McClure how he rated McCarthy’s game against Sydney last week, Wallace said: “Awful."

You can listen to the Fremantle and North Melbourne clash this Sunday live on 1116 SEN from 4:15pm AEDT with Tim Gossage, Ben Cameron, and Paul Hasleby.

“I couldn’t go any further than that. I walked away from the game saying he can’t hold his spot in the side.

“I saw (Shane) Kersten there so I thought they perhaps might have been both on the interchange and we might have seen a change there.

“They’ve got to find something up forward. I actually thought young (Brennan) Cox went very well last week, (he had) 10 or 11 marks, he looked OK.”

The former Greater Western Sydney player will notch his 50th game against the Kangaroos.
