Blues CEO explains no priority pick decision

2018-05-29T09:04+10:00

Carlton CEO Cain Liddle has explained why the club isn’t interested in applying for a priority pick.

Despite sitting last on the ladder, Liddle says the club is confident in their rebuilding plan and won’t be deviating on it.

WATSON: WHY WOULDN'T BLUES WANT PRIORITY PICK

“Until we read the article that Jake (Niall) wrote on Saturday (in The Age), the issue of a priority pick hadn’t even been discussed internally,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“Putting your hand out, personally, I’m not that comfortable with.

“We have come up with a plan and when you make as savage a list cuts as we have over three years, you have to expect what are we going through now.

“Essentially putting your hand out would potentially suggest you’re not in control of the situation.

“We have got a clear plan and I feel like I’m going over old territory a lot now with this plan, but when you decide to cut a list back by 42 players over three years, you appreciate that at some point, there is going to be a compounding effect of all that change.

“We are experiencing that now.

“The reason the priority pick wasn’t even thought about, hasn’t been mentioned and we’re not interested in it, is we are really confident in the plan and we are really confident in the kids we have been able to bring in.

“For us, the priority pick is not even something we are considering and not even something we are interested in.”
