Footy thugs should be “banned for life” says Frawley

UPDATE

Etihad Stadium has confirmed one of the members involved in Friday’s incident has received a life ban.

“One person involved on Friday night has been identified and we are in the process of communicating with that person to tell them they will be permanently banned from events at the stadium in the future,” Etihad Stadium chief executive Michael Green said.

Former St Kilda captain Danny Frawley has called on the AFL to hand out life bans to fans who decide to involve themselves in physical violence during matches.

There has been a series of brawls that have broken out at AFL games this season, including the most recent incident last Friday night at the match between Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs fans.

Frawley has labelled the violence as a “disgrace” and says it’s time the AFL stamped out this unsavoury behaviour once and for all.

“Any pickle out there who thinks they can go and have a few beers and then start an argument over footy and then start punching on,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“We’re pretty quick to throw the book at the soccer people and we talk them down immeasurably, but this one should go straight to Gill McLachlan: they should be banned for life.

“Anyone who throws a punch at the football - you’re banned for life.

“Not a year, not two-years, we do not need those type of people at a family friendly football environment and it’s an absolute disgrace what’s going on at the moment.

“I can’t fathom why pickles would go to the footy and try and get into a blue over the football.”
