Why Bombers are a chance against Tigers: Watson

2018-06-01T07:54+10:00

Essendon champion Tim Watson believes his former side has a chance to upset reigning premiers Richmond at the MCG tomorrow night.

The Bombers have found their groove over the past fortnight, winning their last two matches on the back of manic pressure.

John Worsfold’s men have become the first team to record a pressure factor of more than 200 in three straight games, and Watson thinks the defensive mentality could be pivotal in Essendon causing a boilover.

“There is a chance,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“Richmond deserves to be the favourites going into this game, but the way Essendon has been playing, you look at that whole sort of pressure metre thing, whether you believe in stats or not, the reality is the Bulldogs blew it to the scheissenhausen late in their premiership season. Richmond did exactly the same.

“Essendon’s pressure right now, all over the ground, is right up there. It’s off the charts.

“Can they maintain that is the big question, against a side that is very fast and plays the MCG as well as any team going around.”

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said he is looking forward to the “great test” tomorrow’s Dreamtime clash will present.
