KB slams the AFL’s most “useless stat”

2018-06-08T15:29+10:00

Richmond great Kevin Bartlett has declared the pressure applied stat as useless, after the Tigers were revealed to be ranked 16th in the category from Rounds 6-11.

Damien Hardwick’s men rank above just Fremantle and St Kilda in the stat. In the five-week block, Essendon leads the AFL, followed by Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne and Carlton.

“Is this the most useless stat that we have ever seen?” Bartlett told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“It’s in the Herald Sun today, since Round 6, Hardwick’s side is ranked 16th for pressure applied with an average factor of 177 a game according to Champion Data.

“Pressure applied from Rounds 6-11, Richmond is 16th, below Fremantle and St Kilda. At the top you have Essendon (first), Western Bulldogs (third) and Carlton (fifth).

“That has got to be the most useless stat that’s ever been applied. I don’t like useless stats.

“Those sides, Western Bulldogs and Carlton, can’t play and they can’t score.

“If Richmond is 16th and are reigning, red hot favourites to win the premiership, then that stat is a useless stat. It’s a stat, but it’s useless.

“To put in pressure applied, the Tigers shift the pressure points. Have you ever seen so much rubbish in your life?”
