"Next brigade" of Swans deepening midfield stocks: Parker

2018-06-08T11:00+10:00

Sydney midfielder Luke Parker says the Swans have deepened their midfield stocks due to the continual improvement of the likes of George Hewett, Isaac Heeney and Zak Jones.

John Longmire’s side have won four games on the bounce, but still have big scope for improvement, after just scraping past lowly clubs Brisbane and Carton in the past fortnight.

Parker believes the next tier of Swans are ensuring the established commodities of Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery and himself aren’t so heavily relied upon.

“For us I think we’re looking at that as a positive,” he told SEN Mornings.

“I think at the moment we’re winning games and we’ve beaten a lot of good sides and we haven’t performed to the standards that we know we can.

“You obviously want to go out there each week and improve, but it also shows that at the moment we’ve got a lot of rotations going through the midfield and it’s not just as reliant on Joey (Josh Kennedy), Hanners (Dan Hannebery) and myself.

“George Hewett’s coming through and playing really well, and Isaac Heeney and Zak Jones are that next kind of brigade coming through – they're really sharing the load.”

The 2016 All-Australian also expects injured Sydney youngster Callum Mills to bounce back in a big way after his freak accident ended his season.

“He (Mills) will be a future leader of the club," Parker said.

“For him it’s shattering but he’s got a really strong attitude and a strong mindset. I’m sure he’ll be back bigger and better than ever.”
