The Wrap Up: Geelong versus North Melbourne

2018-06-09T16:13+10:00

Geelong has downed North Melbourne in a fantastic game of footy at GMHBA Stadium.

The Roos spent most of the game chasing, but could never get within reach of a Geelong side that is tough to get a read on.

Here's everything you need to know!

The Talking Point: North are a classy mid away from top four success

Can you imagine where North would be right now had they landed Josh Kelly?

Shaun Higgins may be in borderline All-Australian form, but he doesn't have much help around him outside of bullocking types like Ben Cunnington and Ben Jacobs.

North won the clearances today, but despite the quality of their midfield, Geelong hasn't been a great stoppage team this year.

What North has will suffice this season and they're making it work, but targeting someone like out of favour Demons midfielder Dom Tyson or West Coast gun Andrew Gaff should be at the top of their agenda this spring.

And they have the resources to do so...

The Moment: Cunico goal breaks the Roos

North got within 10 points after a Todd Goldstein goal early in the final term and appeared to have all the momentum.

After a quarter of edging closer to the Cats, the Roos made their move and kicked the first of the term.

Unfortunately for North supporters, it didn't last long as youngster Jordan Cunico kicked this ripping goal and the tide of the game shifted as Bob Murphy pointed out.

"Since the Cunico goal, they've just controlled everything Geelong," Murphy said.

They kicked 5.3 in nine minutes and the game was done and dusted.

What’s next?

Geelong will take on reigning premiers Richmond at the MCG next Sunday and given the Tigers are coming off a loss, expect a heated affair.

North Melbourne meanwhile will get the week off to freshen up before taking on the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium in Round 14.
