“Genuine concern” about lack of scoring says Fagan

2018-06-12T08:56+10:00

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has conceded there is “genuine concern” amongst the coaching fraternity about the lack of scoring in the modern game.

All 18 AFL coaches met with Gillon McLachlan and Steve Hocking last night, and Fagan has explained some of the ideas discussed to solve the scoring issue.

FAGAN PROVIDES HAMSTRING UPDATE

“There is a genuine concern about the fact that maybe there is not enough scoring happening in footy,” he told SEN Breakfast.

"We were talking last night, (Geelong coach) Chris Scott and I, the idea of either shortening the game somewhat, playing more games but shortening them, and maybe even looking at the idea of not having interchange but going back to the 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd man.

"The game opens up a litte bit more quite naturally (without interchange) because players won't be able to run as much as they can currently with 80-odd rotations.

"Zones and things like that seem a little bit clunky and umpires have to umpire that.

“All will come out in the course of time I suppose and maybe nothing will happen if it's too hard."
