Collingwood have announced themselves a genuine premiership threat by defeating in-form Melbourne by 42-points in today’s blockbuster Queen’s Birthday clash at the MCG.
The Magpies led at every change to secure their fourth straight win and claim their biggest scalp of the season to date in a pulsating contest.
Here's everything you need to know!
The Talking Point: Collingwood’s premiership credentials sky rocket
After showing signs of significant improvement in 2018, Collingwood can now be classified as a genuine premiership threat.
The Magpies claimed a huge scalp in Melbourne this afternoon, and answered every challenge that came their way throughout the contest.
A fast start laid the platform for the Pies, bursting out to a 23-point quarter-time lead, which could have been greater if it weren’t for three posters and a missed opportunity from the usually reliable Steele Sidebottom.
Collingwood dominated the clearances with the likes of Taylor Adams, Adam Treloar, Sidebottom and surprise packet Chris Payne consistently giving the likes of the imposing Mason Cox and his fellow forwards every opportunity to kick a winning score.
The even spread of goal-kickers would delight Nathan Buckley, particularly the career-best performance from Cox, who finally got the fruits of his labour after weeks of solid, but unrewarded performances.
Hot Pies at the MCG! 🔥

AFL Nation’s Robert Walls is starting to warm to the American after his dominant 5 goal display, which saw him win the Neale Daniher trophy for best on ground.
Wallsy: I'll tell you what, he is starting to grow on me this big fella!

According to Walls, today’s victory catapults Collingwood amongst the likes of West Coast, Richmond and Melbourne as a flag contender in 2018.

The Star: Jordan de Goey
Collingwood’s Jordan de Goey was at his explosive best when the game was up for grabs.
The out-of-contract Magpie again provided another example of his prodigious talent with a dynamic midfield display.
De Goey was red hot in the first half, collecting 21 disposals, three clearances, six tackles, three goal assists and a staggering 10 inside 50s.
De Goey goes, and it's a big goal courtesy of WHE for @CollingwoodFC!

The 22-year-old has all the hallmarks of becoming the next Dustin Martin, and the Pies must do everything in their power to secure his signature to a long term contract.
This guy today… 👌

What a player he is becoming and promises to be in the future.
The Young Gun: Jaidyn Stephenson
It seems the big stage doesn’t faze young Jaidyn Stephenson.
Just like Anzac Day earlier this season, the 19-year-old was again impressive in front of a large audience in a match of huge magnitude.
Stephenson was a constant thorn in the Melbourne defence with his forward pressure and ability to hit the scoreboard, booting four crucial goals as part of the Magpies effective hybrid forward line setup.
WOW!

The teenager could have had a day out if only for a touch more polish in front of goal.
Even so, Collingwood look to have struck gold with the addition of the Eastern Rangers product taken with pick six in last year’s draft.
Is he now the favourite for Rising Star award?
What’s next?
Both clubs have the bye next weekend.
Following the mid-season break, Melbourne take on Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval, while Collingwood clash with traditional rivals Carlton at the MCG.
