Victorian clubs and media undermining AFL’s investment says GWS CEO

2018-06-15T09:34+10:00

Greater Western Sydney CEO Dave Matthews has blasted Victorian clubs and Victorian media for “undermining” the AFL’s investment in foundation clubs.

The Gold Coast Suns have been heavily criticised for their poor performances over the past fortnight, and Matthews believes the talks of a player exodus is uncalled for.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“Do you think it’s in the interests of the competition to just have the list picked apart?” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I think it’s very narrow minded some of the criticism for clubs that are seven and eight years into their existence in very challenging and difficult markets, to just be constantly ripped apart. That’s what happens.

“The emotion that comes out of Victorian clubs and the Victorian media undermines the AFL’s investment in those markets.

“You can’t tell me just because Gary Ablett ended up going home that it was a flawed strategy.”
