Richmond superstar Dustin Martin has avoided suspension for umpire contact, keeping his hopes of winning back-to-back Brownlow Medals alive.
Match Review Officer Michael Christian has handed Martin a $1,500 fine for careless contact with umpire Jacob Mollison.
Martin was complaining after an incident with Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, which saw him make contact with the umpire when demonstrating what occurred in the contest.
Tom Hawkins and Ed Curnow have both been handed suspensions for umpire contact this season, while the likes of Charlie Curnow and Steven May have avoided bans.
No other charges were laid from Round 13, with Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands cleared of contact with Carlton’s Patrick Cripps.
