Jones: Melbourne looking for redemption

2018-06-21T09:20+10:00

Melbourne co-captain Nathan Jones is looking for redemption when his side takes on Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

After a disappointing 42-point loss to Collingwood on Queen’s Birthday, the Demons went into the bye on a sour note despite a seemingly strong start to the season.

“We had some really good form prior to the bye, and leading into the second half of the year we realise where we’re at on our journey,” Jones said on SEN Breakfast.

“We’ve still got a lot of growing and development to do, and education to learn from different opportunities and challenges we face along the way.”

Jones said the club reviewed its loss to the Magpies strongly, but are focusing on what is to come in 2018.

“Credit to our coaches, they came in with a really clear plan for us to move on and look at the second half of the year almost like it’s a new season,” he said.

“That’s the way we’ve tried to treat it and we look forward to getting out there and playing again.

“Redemption definitely plays a part in that motivating factor and when you serve up a performance leading into a bye like that, it doesn’t sit very well.

“I think guys will be pretty hungry to get out there and have another crack at it.”
