King: Carlton win would be "upset of the decade"

2018-06-21T09:48+10:00

Former North Melbourne premiership player David King believes Carlton beating Collingwood would be the upset of the decade.

Collingwood are coming off a bye and a massive Queen’s Birthday Monday win over Melbourne, while Carlton was beaten badly by Fremantle at Etihad Stadium.

“Nothing’s impossible, until you look at the Carlton versus Collingwood game,” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“This would be the biggest upset of the decade, they’d make a 30 for 30 about this, there’s not a lot to say Carlton can get Collingwood.”

Despite that, King said they’ve read this script before.

“In saying that, we look back at last year, we probably send the same thing going into Round 7 and they found a way the Blues,” he said.

Collingwood has taken on some of the best teams in the competition in recent weeks and King believes Carlton will provide a different sort of challenge.

“Collingwood are taking all before them, they’ve been awesome this year, this is just a real maturity test,” he said.

“If Collingwood turn up to play, they just put this game to bed.”

As for the Blues, the former North Melbourne defender wants them to play for their fans above all else.

“Carlton needs to show effort. That’s nothing to do with the result, they need to give their fans a reason to continue to go to the football,” he said.

“Everyone’s under pressure at Carlton and the players need to relieve some of that pressure by showing simple effort.”

A win could see Collingwood jump into the top four if other results fall their way this weekend.

Teams are currently 1-5 this year coming off the bye.
