Port footy GM delighted with "future captain" Wines re-signing

2018-06-20T10:00+10:00

Port Adelaide General Manager of Football Chris Davies has expressed his pleasure with Ollie Wines' commitment to the club.

The highly sought after midfielder signed a four-year extension with the Power, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2022 season.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“He’s a 23-year-old vice-captain," Davies told SEN Breakfast.

"He’s a guy that we lean on to get things done around the club and he’s well-liked and respected by his peers.

“He shows his commitment to us every day at training and every day amongst his peers and on the weekend so for him to show faith for a future four-year period is great for us.

“He’s got a wicked sense of humour and he’s certainly able to put his foot down when needed.”

The idea of Wines becoming a future captain of the club has been floated around by many, and Davies believes he is well on track to become just that.

“I think Ollie’s on a trajectory at our club, when and if that happens will be down the track," he said.

“He’s the type of guy that when he speaks, the guys around him listen, guys around him follow him.

“Once he elevates himself to captaincy down the track, I’m sure that those traits will be on show."
