Lyon slams Eagles: “They were pathetic”

2018-06-22T07:15+10:00

Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon has slammed the West Coast Eagles, after their 28-point loss to Essendon last night.

The Bombers jumped the Eagles, leading 50-1 early in the second term, and Lyon has explained how the effort from Adam Simpson’s men was simply unacceptable.

THE WRAP-UP: BOMBERS FLY OVER EAGLES

“I wrote this down, this is what I thought, they couldn’t be bothered,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I know it’s a very basic summation of it, but if you didn’t see this game, the West Coast Eagles ran out onto the ground against a fired up Essendon, who obviously had everything to play for.

“They kicked six goals to none in the first quarter, kicked the first two of the second, so eight goals to none.

“The West Coast Eagles could not be bothered. They didn’t do enough. They were pathetic. They didn’t want to pay the price.”

Former Essendon captain Tim Watson believes the Eagles came into the game with a soft mental approach.

However, Lyon also said he can live with a performance like that from West Coast, but only if they respond strongly next week against Adelaide.
