Contract talk “a laugh” says GWS star Kelly

2018-06-22T10:49+10:00

Greater Western Sydney star Josh Kelly is amused by the constant speculation surrounding his contract status.

Kelly was the subject of immense media attention last season, before turning down a big money offer from North Melbourne to remain at the Giants. However, it was just a two-year deal, with some pundits already predicting the Kangaroos will chase Kelly again in the future.

However, the 23-year-old doesn’t let the external conversation get to him, and hopes to use lessons learnt from last season to deal with the rumours.

“It’s a bit of a laugh,” Kelly told SEN Mornings.

“It’s all background noise and I learnt last year it’s all a bit of fun. I had teammates giving me a bit of flack week to week, and that is what it is. It’s not something I’ve even put any thought into at this stage.

“All I learnt from it is just focus on my footy. I really enjoy the Giants and the direction we’re heading and I think we’re in a great situation right now to play our best footy in the second half of the year and put ourselves in a position where we compete with the best.

“I’m just focusing on my footy week to week, let that take care of itself and whatever the chips at is in the background, that will be what it will be.”

Kelly is averaging 28.3 disposals this season for the Giants who take on Brisbane on Saturday at The Gabba from 4:35pm AEST, and you can listen to the game live on 1116 SEN with Tristan Foenander and Brent Staker.
