Will Essendon regret its slow start to the season?

2018-06-26T15:55+10:00

Two-time premiership player David King says Essendon could end up regretting its underwhelming start to the 2018 season.

King had high hopes for the Bombers after they made a finals berth last year, but the Dons currently sit in 12th position on the ladder with just six wins from their 13 games.

“This is a year that they’ll look back with so many regrets,” King told SEN Afternoons.

“They’ve underperformed this year no doubt.”

But Essendon returned to form in round 14, playing a fast paced style of football against West Coast to record an upset 28-point victory at Optus Stadium.

“That’s the form they can show,” King said.

“When you see them at their best you go ‘wow that can beat anyone’.

“To do that on the road over there, it just shows, if you get that game going at Etihad (Stadium) or the MCG it will be spectacular.”

Essendon has defeated Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Geelong, GWS, Brisbane and West Coast, but its losses to the Western Bulldogs and Carlton in particular could prove costly.

The Bombers will be looking to continue their momentum and mount a charge towards the top eight when they meet North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
