Treloar can return successfully this season: Dal Santo

Collingwood's Adam Treloar has been ruled out until late August after suffering a tendon injury to his left hamstring, but Nick Dal Santo says the midfielder can make a successful comeback later this season.

Dal Santo suffered the same hamstring injury while with North Melbourne in 2015 and can relate to Treloar’s situation.

“Interestingly, I did the exact same thing – snapped (my) hamstring tendon,” Dal Santo told SEN Afternoons.

“As soon as I saw that he went down I thought he’s done.

“That (was) the definition or the diagram of what it looks like.”

After undergoing surgery to repair the tendon injury, Dal Santo made a full recovery and had an immediate impact with 34 disposals against GWS upon return.

“I played in nine (weeks),” Dal Santo said.

“I thought I was good to go in eight.

“I was a tiny bit nervous in the first passage of play, but as soon as I ran into space on the wing and did a kick … I felt I was 100 percent.

“I had no concern after that moment.”

Dal Santo said Treloar has made the right decision to opt for surgery and he should make a full recovery.

“I think it’s a really wise decision that he is getting surgery in regards to the recovery process,” Dal Santo said.

“At least you’re guaranteed you know what you’ve got to do in regards to recovery.”

Dal Santo’s only concern with Treloar’s rehabilitation is the impact of his right hamstring injury as well.

“He’s got two (hamstring injuries),” Dal Santo said.

“Now the concern with that is, does it prolong the recovery process?

“If the other one’s lingering then you’re always hampered by one or the other.”

But Dal Santo said Treloar is extremely professional and will go to desperate measures to play come the pointy end of the season.

“I think he can get back,” Dal Santo said.

“At least you know with Adam … there’ll be no stone left unturned.”

Collingwood currently sit in fourth position on the ladder and have nine games remaining before finals.

They take on the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.
