Lynch won't play for the Gold Coast again: Wallace

2018-06-28T18:30+10:00

AFL Hall of Fame inductee Terry Wallace has expressed his belief that Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch has played his last game for the Suns.

There has been speculation about the future of the much sought after forward as his contract is set to expire at the end of 2018.

In light of recent news that Lynch would miss the remainder of the season to have surgery on his troublesome knee, Wallace believes Lynch will opt to move to Melbourne and sign with a bigger club than the struggling expansi club.

“I don’t think he’s going to be playing with the Gold Coast Suns under any circumstances,” said Wallace on SEN’s The Match Committee.

“I think he’s gone.

“He has every right to take his time, do what he needs to, get his operation and make his decision in his own time.

“But I think that the decision will be to come back to Melbourne and go to a bigger based club than where he’s playing at."

Lynch is expected to attract offers of over $1 million dollars per season from numerous clubs, but both Wallace and SEN’s Time On host Sam McClure agree the forward is worth every penny.

“In 2015, he kicked 43 goals in a side that finished sixteenth,” said McClure.

“The next year he kicked 66 goals 34 (behinds), so he had 100 shots at goal in a side that finished fourth last.

“In 2017 he kicked 44 goals in a side that finished second last, this is why he is the most hunted forward on the planet at the moment.”

Wallace agreed the numbers speak for themselves.

“Those figures, they don’t lie,” he said.

“I didn’t think he had a great year last year but it’s still a return of 44 goals in a year that wasn’t a super year for the team or himself.
